The 911 calls began at about 10 a.m., reporting that about 18 motorcycles were passing traffic on the right shoulder and in the center median, and weaving in and out of traffic, state police said.

Callers said the motorcycles were in the Stamford area, and the group was traveling north on I-95, state police said.

Troopers stopped their cruisers at Exit 21 on I-95 north in Fairfield and waited for the motorcycles to pass, state police said.

After the group passed, some motorcycles entered the Fairfield rest area and others continued on I-95, state police said.

Troopers entered the rest area and saw five motorcycles near the exit ramp, state police said. But before troopers could approach, the motorcycles sped off at a high speed, state police said.

The troopers did not pursue the motorcycles, state police said, but continued to drive along I-95 looking for them.

Then, troopers saw the motorcycles as they left I-95 at Exit 27a and headed north on Route 8/25 in Bridgeport, state police said.

Troopers proceeded onto Route 8/25 northbound when the group of motorcycles slowed down and regrouped near Exit 2, state police said.

Troopers got in front of the group of motorcycles, stopping and blocking traffic near Exit 2, state police said.

The troopers got out of their cruisers and signaled for the motorcyclists to pull over to the side of the highway, state police said.

But the motorcycles took off again, accelerating to a high rate of speed, state police said. Again, troopers did not pursue.

Eventually, troopers located two of the motorcycles that had stopped on the Exit 5 entrance ramp, state police said.

Both drivers, Jakob Ruminski, 39, of Norwalk and Evron Trim, 31, of Milford, were taken into custody and transported to Troop G in Bridgeport.

Each was charged with reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and disobeying the signal of an officer.

Ruminski and Trim each posted $2,500 bond and are scheduled to appear at Bridgeport Superior Court on April 17.
