Kids Safe; Bomb Squad Checking New Canaan's Saxe School

Update: 3:40 p.m. NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Students are safe but a bomb squad is sweeping New Canaan's Saxe Middle School after police received a general threat Thursday afternoon, Capt. Leon Krolikowski said. 

All students have been sent home and police will remain at the school overnight. 

Classes will go on as normal Friday at Saxe and there will be an increased police presence at all New Canaan schools, Krolikowski said.

A criminal investigation is underway into who made the threat, he said. 

Saxe was on a "modified lockdown" for a few hours Thursday afternoon, he said.

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — There is a police investigation taking place at New Canaan’s Saxe Middle School, a release from the district said.

All students are safe, and police will have an ongoing presence and supervise dismissal, the release said.

Several police cars were seen outside the school after 3 p.m., Thursday, and no one was being let into the school.
