The incident began at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when the New Canaan Police Department received a call that an individual, later identified as Heather Sturtz, 41, of Briarwood, Queens, N.Y., was at the home, armed with a handgun and was threatening suicide, Krolikowski said.

Sturtz was reported to be on the property of a private residence located at 721 North Wilton Road, police said. Officers located Sturtz and found that the she had suffered a single gunshot wound, he said.

Sturtz was treated at the scene but did not survive, Krolikowski said.

Further investigation determined that this incident was a suicide, however, this finding is contingent on receiving a report from the Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, he said.

He gave no further information on the victim or the incident.

According to the New Canaan Assessor's Office, the home at 721 North Wilton Road was built in 2006. The 22-room house includes eight bedrooms, five bathrooms, a tennis court, and a pool.

The property has an assessed value of $10.18 million, and was the eighth-highest assessed property on the town's most recent Grand List.

The owner of the home is listed in New Canaan land records as 721 North Wilton Road LLC. The house is located behind a gate.

The New Canaan Advertiser said the property is owned by Michael Kramer, a partner at Ducera Partners in New York City. There was no indication he was involved in the Tuesday shooting.
