Police: Norwalk Crash That Left Two Dead Caused By Head-On Collision

NORWALK, Conn. -- A head-on crash on Connecticut Avenue/Route 1 in Norwalk late Monday night left two people dead and a third person with serious injuries, police said.

The accident occurred at 10:11 p.m. in front of 789 Connecticut Ave., near the border of Darien and Norwalk. 

Arriving officers found two cars in the roadway with extensive damage, police said. Two male occupants of one of the cars were pronounced dead at the scene, and a male occupant of the other car was seriously injured, police said.

The Norwalk Fire Department extricated all three males from the wreckage, and the one with serious injuries was taken to Norwalk Hospital, police said.

Police said that the preliminary investigation indicates that both cars were traveling in opposite directions on Connecticut Avenue when a head-on collision occurred.

Connecticut Avenue remained closed for several hours while the Norwalk Police Accident Investigators and the Crime Scene Unit processed the scene. 

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of their families, police said.
