Police Probing Fraudulent Card Use, Email Request

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Who would be brazen enough to steal a woman’s debit card number, use it to purchase a portable video-game system and then ask the victim to mail the item to an address in Alabama? New Canaan Police are looking into it.

Police said someone used the debit card number of a 22-year-old Spring Water Lane woman on Aug. 20 to buy more than $275 in items: a PlayStation Portable video-game system and some items from a pet store. Police said the Spring Water Lane woman did not lose her card.

Police said the items were shipped to the complainant’s New Canaan address and she later received an email from someone asking her to ship the items to Alabama. Police said there was no specific address listed. Police said the items were sent back and the woman received refunds for the purchases.
