Faith Taylor, 37, was charged with assault of an intellectually disabled person, risk of injury to a child and cruelty to animals.
The arrest stems from a Department of Children and Families referral to Shelton Police.
On Aug. 25, a DCF social worker was at Taylor’s home on an unrelated case and saw a boy with special needs who had bruising and cuts all over his body, police said.
Shelton officers called to investigate discovered the child sustained the injuries at the hands of Taylor, police said.
While on scene, police noticed what appeared to be a dead cat in the home. When they noticed a faint sound coming from the cat, it was transported to a local animal hospital, where it was found to be severely neglected and was euthanized, police said.
Taylor was released on $500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 26.
