A 15-year-old Norwalk boy pounded on the door of an annex building at the Chestnut Street school at about 2:45 p.m. Monday and then walked into a classroom via a second, unlocked door, police said. Because he did not have permission to be in the school, he was asked to leave, police said. While being escorted out, the suspect punched two male teachers in the face, according to police reports.
When officers arrived, they saw the suspect standing outside the school, police said. When the boy saw officers, police said he attempted to jump over a wooden railing but was stopped in the parking lot, police said. As he jumped over the railing, three plastic bags with marijuana fell out of his pocket, police said.
“Based on the suspect’s behavior, motor skills and mentation, officers believe that the suspect was on some type of drug or drugs and transported him to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation,” Norwalk Police Lt. Paul Resnik said in a press release.
Side-by-Side School, a charter school not affiliated with Norwalk Public Schools, was placed on lockdown briefly Monday while police made the arrest, police said. No serious injuries were reported in the incident.
The juvenile suspect was charged with criminal trespassing on school grounds, risk of injury to a minor, possession of marijuana and two counts of third-degree assault. He was released to the custody of a family member and was due in juvenile court Wednesday.
