Roland Newton, 29, had finished up a three year jail sentence in August on the armed robbery charges and is still on parole, the Stamford Advocate reported. On Tuesday night, officers in the Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad were on patrol when they spotted Newton near an apartment complex on Pequot Drive where he had been ordered not to trespass, according to the Stamford Advocate.
When police approached him, they discovered a loaded 9 mm Glock semiautomatic pistol in his waistband, the Stamford Advocate reported. He was taken into custody and charged with being a felon in possession of a pistol, altering the serial numbers of a gun, possession of a large capacity magazine, and first-degree trespassing, according to the Stamford Advocate.
He was held on a $150,000 bond, which was raised to $250,000 after he appeared in court, and because of his parole status he will be sent back to prison, according to the Stamford Advocate.
Police told the Stamford Advocate that in 2011, Newton walked up to a 28-year-old man sitting in his car on Irving Avenue and fired five shots into his car. One of the bullets struck the man in the head, and he ended up brain damaged, according to the Stamford Advocate. Newton pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and in August was sentenced to time served and six years of special parole, according to the Stamford Advocate.
