In October, the Stamford Police Department's Digital Forensic Unit received information that hundreds of images of child pornography were being downloaded at a house at 31 Stephen St. in Stamford, Capt. Richard Conklin and Lt. Diedrich Hohn said in a statement.

After a search warrant was executed at the home Jan. 9, officers found numerous computers that could have held the downloaded images, police said. Officers seized numerous computers, phones and thumb drives from several residents living in the basement apartment of the home, police said.

After the evidence was analyzed, it was determined that the computer belonging to Efrain Martinez-Gutierrez contained more than 500 images of child pornography on its hard drive, prompting officers to obtain a warrant for his arrest, police said.

On Thursday, Martinez-Gutierrez was located and arrested. He was transported to the Police Department headquarters and charged with first-degree possession of child pornography and obscenity.

He was held on $75,000 bond. No court date was released by the department.

The Stamford Police worked with the state's attorney's office on the investigation. The work of Officer Kevin McKay and Officer Mark Sinise was praised by Conklin and Hohn.
