State Police Investigate Death Of Woman, 59, Found On I-95 In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn — The death of a 59-year-old woman who was found lying in the northbound lanes of I-95 late Monday in Stamford is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.

The body of the woman, identified as Harriet R. Okura, of Eastchester, N.Y., was found near Exit 9, state police said.  

She was declared dead at about 10:30 p.m. Monday by Stamford emergency services after several 911 callers reported the body on the highway, state police said.

State police are investigating Okura's death as untimely but did not say how she ended up on the highway and did not detail the circumstances of her death.   

Several lanes of I-95 north were closed for hours for an investigation with the help of state Department of Transportation crews. 

Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief State Medical’s Examiner in Farmington for an autopsy Tuesday.

The case remains under active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Troop G in Bridgeport at 203-696-2500.

In March, Abbey Meany, a 27-year-old Stamford woman, committed suicide by after jumping from a bridge onto I-95 in that same vicinity.
