School has already started in many communities around the state, but there is still more than a week until the long Labor Day weekend, police said.

In light of increased traffic due to school openings and last-minute vacations and day trips, state troopers will be out in force all this weekend and next, police said.

State Police from Troop G in Bridgeport will have roving patrols on Interstate 95 in areas of Greenwich, Norwalk, Westport and Stratford, police said.

State Police from Troop A in Southbury will hold roving patrols in Danbury, Southbury, Waterbury and Brookfield on Interstate 84 and Route 7, police said.

Danbury police and State Police will also conduct a joint sobriety checkpoint Friday night on the Lake Avenue Extension in Danbury between Interstate 84 westbound, Exit 4 off-ramp, and Interstate 84 eastbound, Exit 4 on-ramp.

Police are urging drivers to buckle up, avoid distractions, and to stay sober when behind the wheel.

“Troopers are standing by to eliminate dangerous drivers from Connecticut roads and highways,” said State Police Col. Brian Meraviglia. “As the summer season ends, Troopers will be especially vigilant to find and remove drunk drivers, as well as those who defy the cell phone prohibition. Both of these violations are illegal and dangerous to all who travel our roadways.”
