Suspect Charged In New Canaan Bad Check Case

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — A Darien man suspected of writing a bad check for a propane fuel delivery in New Canaan was charged last week, Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said.

According to Ogrinc, here is what happened: The suspect, Marc Minella, 34, wrote a $5,000 check for a propane fuel delivery to the Tuscan Restaurant in New Canaan. When the check was cashed, there were insufficient funds in the account. The bank sent two letters to the suspect, who never replied after a sufficient amount of time.

It is standard procedure to send a letter to a person who writes a bad check, Ogrinc said. Two were sent to Minella because of an address change, she said.

New Canaan police charged Minella with issuing a bad check, a felony because of the amount of the check, after a motor vehicle stop in Darien on March 19, she said. He was released on $5,000 bond and has a court date of March 28.
