The man, whose name was not released, is accused of robbing the bank Jan. 25 and then leading authorities on a chase through Port Chester, N.Y., according to GreenwichTime.com, which said the man was arrested on unrelated charges in Florida and has not yet been charged in Greenwich.

Greenwich police said they had a “tremendous amount of physical evidence” connecting the man to the bank robbery, including the gun and car used in the crime, according to GreenwichTime.com.

The suspected robber is facing “multiple crimes in several states,” according to greenwichtime.com.

The suspect entered the bank at 100 Mason St., displayed a handgun and demanded cash from a teller, police said. The teller complied, and the suspect fled with the money, police said. No one was injured.

The suspect was described as a white man standing 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7, with an average build, police said. He was wearing a winter hat, a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and light colored sneakers. The suspect also attempted to obscure his facial feature by applying some sort of dark colored makeup, police said.

A witness saw the suspect get into a vehicle, which was quickly located by a Greenwich police officer as it entered I-95 southbound at Exit 3, police said.

The officer activated his overhead lights and sirens, but the suspect refused to pull over and engaged the officer in pursuit, police said. Shortly after crossing into New York State, the suspect sideswiped another vehicle and crashed, police said. The suspect immediately fled that crash scene and engaged the officer in a foot pursuit off I-95 and into Port Chester, police said.

The Greenwich Police Department, the Port Chester Police Department, and other surrounding New York agencies searched for the suspect but did not find him. The Westchester County police dispatched its helicopter unit and Special Response Team to assist Port Chester police, according to Kieran O'Leary, a county police spokesman.

Police were searching near Home Depot at Midland Plaza and along Interstate 95 in Port Chester, according to O'Leary.

Police said a Chevy Silverado stolen from a home on Alto Avenue in Port Chester and recovered in the Bronx was likely connected the bank robber's escape, police said.

Greenwich police recovered a weapon on an embankment under I-95 during the search, police said.
