The accident took place on Nov. 19, 2016 when a tractor-trailer exited I-95 south at exit 3 and was driving on Arch Street when it hit a car. Police at the time identified the occupants of the car as 38-year-old Cristina Vomoca and 33-year-old Maiko Kobayashi, both of Stamford. They were both taken to Stamford Hospital where they were treated for significant injuries.

Vomoca later died of her injuries, according to Greenwich Time. After an investigation, police determined that the driver of the tractor-trailer, 52-year-old Jeffrey Bodnar of Metuchen, N.J., had not stopped at a red light at the bottom of the I-95 exit ramp and had caused the crash, according to Greenwich Time.
Bodnar turned himself in to police on Wednesday, and was charged with manslaughter and first-degree assault, according to Greenwich Time. He posted a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 30, Greenwich Time reported.
A GoFundMe was set up for the two women involved in the crash to help them after they both suffered serious brain injuries. They were both hairstylists at the Hopscotch Salon in Greenwich and were on their way home when the crash occurred.

Vomoca was born in Brazil and emigrated to the United States 14 years ago. She is survived by her partner Paul Wilson and beloved son Oliver Vomoca Wilson, both of Stamford. Kobayashi was born in Japan and came to the U.S. in her early teens, according to the GoFundMe.
