New Canaan Woman Injured In Head-On Crash In Darien

DARIEN, Conn. -- Two drivers were injured Monday in a serious motor vehicle accident on Mansfield Avenue north of Middlesex Road in Darien, police said.

At approximately 7 a.m., a 2012 Honda Accord was traveling south on Mansfield Avenue when it crossed the double yellow line into the northbound lane, striking a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer head on, according to police. 

The driver of the Chevy, a 59-year-old New Canaan woman, was injured and subsequently hospitalized. The driver of the Honda, a 19-year-old New Hartford woman, was seriously injured and required extrication from her vehicle. 

No other occupants were in either of the vehicles. 

Darien EMS transported the injured parties to Norwalk and Stamford Hospitals. 

Mansfield Avenue between Pembroke Road and Middlesex Road was closed for over three hours.
