The incident began when Sgt. Joseph Farenga saw a suspicious vehicle with a driver who he knew had a suspended driver's license at about 5 p.m. Thursday on New Norwalk Road near Old Norwalk Road, police said.
Farenga stopped the vehicle and confirmed that the driver's license was suspended, police said.
The officer believed the driver was under the influence of a narcotic, police said. A search of the vehicle turned up heroin and hypodermic needles, police said. The car's driver, Kyle Knott,18, of 351 Jeliff Mill Road, was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension.
The car's passenger, Jay Reader, 20, of 181 Carter St., was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Knott and Reader were each held on $5,000 bond and transported to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment.
The New Canaan Police Department said it is committed to targeting and arresting people who possess and sell narcotics in town.
