DARIEN, Conn. ‒ WCBS-TV morning news anchor Rob Morrison denied choking his wife at their Darien home as he appeared in court on several domestic violence charges Tuesday.
"I did not choke my wife. I've never laid my hands on my wife. I was just as surprised by that particular charge as probably everybody else who's heard about this story," Morrison told reporters before being arraigned.
Morrison did not enter a plea when he appeared in court, but a protective order was issued against him. He is not to come within 100 feet of his wife, CBS anchor Ashley Morrison, except in the workplace. Outside of work he is not allowed to visit her home or have any contact with her. He will appear in court again on March 26.
Morrison still had a bruised lip and a mark on his nose that could be seen in his mugshot following his arrest. He declined to comment on how he received his injuries.
Police reported that Morrison's wife had red marks on her neck consistent with the allegations that her husband tried to choke her. He also continued to threaten her after being arrested, according to police reports.
Ashely Morrison was not present at the arraignment, but her attorney Steve Mandel said that they felt there should be a restraining order and that they were satisfied with the court's decision. He said that she intends to return to work, where there is not a concern for her safety.
"Her whole world's been turned upside down. This is the last thing she ever expected, the last thing she ever wanted," Mandel said.
Morrison said he and his wife were "humbled and overwhelmed" by support they received from family, friends, colleagues and viewers.
He apologized for how he acted towards Darien police when they were called to his house.
"I regret deeply how I acted toward the Darien Police Department. I did not show the respect they deserve."
