WESTPORT, Conn. — An Oxford man suspected of stealing a pair of high-end glasses faces a larceny charge after Westport police disseminated his photo and were flooded with calls identifying him, police said.
David Lafrance, 36, was arrested on a warrant Tuesday and charged with sixth-degree larceny in the Nov. 29 incident, police said.
Around 10:51 a.m. on that date, a man, later identified as Lafrance, walked into Specs of Westport and began trying on glasses with help from staffers, police said.
While the workers were distracted, he place a pair of glasses in his pocket and left without paying for them, police said.
The Westport Police Patrol and Detective divisions reviewed Specs' interior surveillance footage, giving several images of the suspect to the media and adding them to the department’s social media pages.
Immediately, the detective bureau began receiving numerous tips and assistance from the public, who provided investigators the suspect’s name and other identifying information.
As a direct result, the stolen property was recovered and Lafrance arrested, police said.
He posted a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 28.
