The station recently announced that for the first time in 50 years it would make an endorsement, according to a press release. The endorsement occurred during a radio interview between Astorino and William O'Shaughnessy, president and chief executive officer of  Whitney Radio, the parent company of WVOX, according to the release.

O'Shaughnessy is the former president of the New York State Broadcasters Association and served as chairman of Public Affairs for the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington, according to the release.

"Rob Astorino, I've never done this before," O'Shaughnessy said during the interview, according to the release. "I've been at this microphone for 50 years. You haven't got all the endorsements you're going to get. This radio station has been involved in politics and poker for 50 years. And I am pleased to announce at this moment that Noam Bramson's hometown station is going to endorse Rob Astorino."

Astorino said it was an "historic endorsement," according to the release.

"I've been listening to WVOX all my life, so it's a special honor to receive this historic endorsement," Astorino said in the release. "I know WVOX doesn't endorse candidates, so I was almost speechless when Bill O'Shaughnessy said the words. I am enormously grateful to Bill and to everyone at WVOX for this wonderful surprise and for delivering to the people of Westchester, day in and day out, some of the best community news discussions in America."
