HARTFORD, Conn. – Tight background checks, gun storage and magazine size are expected to be key issues as the legislature's school security task force draws up new gun control legislation, State Sen. Toni Boucher said.

Boucher, who is co-chair of the task force, said the new regulations may be ready by Feb. 15.

“We’re trying to do it in short fashion and not wait until the end of the legislative session,” said the Republican lawmaker, who represents New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Weston, Westport and Wilton.

She also said the approach will be bipartisan. “It’s not going to be about what I want, but about what the group as a whole can facilitate,” she said.

Public hearings devoted to school safety, gun safety and mental health will take place Friday, Jan. 25, and Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 28 and 29, in Hartford. A fourth hearing is set for Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m. at Newtown High School.

“We hope to have something out of our committee by Feb. 5 and passed by Feb. 15,” Boucher said.

Mr. Zippy:

so misguided not a single part of any legislation proposed would do anything to have stopped any of these is time to study why this happened not knee jerk some gun laws that cant be enforced. Politicians think they will be done after this legislation and when it happens again what freedoms will they take away next.

Obama thinks that AR-15's (so-called Assault Weapons) are "weapons designed for the theater of war" so they ought to be banned. How can you argue against that? If only it's true.

No self-respecting military in the world would use AR-15's (the civilian version of full automatic M-16's). Only in Obama's head military uses AR-15's.

Load up on ammo while you have the chance. .223 is very hard to find, and should be stockpiled.
