Core Of New York, Connecticut Gun-Control Laws Upheld

Laws in New York and Connecticut that banned the possession of semiautomatic weapons and large capacity magazines were upheld Monday by the 2nd U. S. Court of Appeals in New York, according to reports.

But the court struck down some of the limits imposed, such as a rule regulating load limits and a Connecticut prohibition on the non-semiautomatic Remington 7615, according to Fox News.

The gun laws in Connecticut and New York are among some of the strictest in the country, and came shortly after the 2012 shooting tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Fox News said.

The decision may spark further debate since gun control is becoming more of an issue following the Oct. 1 shootings in Roseburg, Ore., Fox News said.
