The program allows candidates for state office and the General Assembly to obtain public funding for their campaigns.
Blankley is running to represent Connecticut's 36th State Senate District, which includes Greenwich and parts of Stamford and New Canaan.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported my campaign in these early stages,” he said. “We have created a lot of momentum that will enable us to mount a strong challenge heading into the November election. Gaining signatures and donations in a very short period of time is personally gratifying, but more importantly it demonstrates that the residents of this district are ready for new representation in Hartford, and I am ready to provide that change.”
According to the State Elections Enforcement Commission, the Citizens’ Election Program is "a voluntary program...designed to encourage citizen participation and limit the role of private money in the State of Connecticut’s political process.”
State Senate candidates for the general election are required to raise $15,000 from 300 individual donors from towns within the districts they seek to represent to qualify for their grants.
Blankley emphasized the advantages of electing representatives to Hartford who have prior experience managing major financial budgets, building businesses and creating jobs.
“Managing a budget of nearly $20 billion is not something that can be learned overnight; it takes time and the willingness to make hard decisions,” he said. “You can add to that my experience managing large scale corporate restructurings and major capital market activity, and my entrepreneurial job creation record. Our state has problems, and I have the skills and determination to find and implement solutions that will directly impact the 36th district and Connecticut as a whole.”
