Himes announced recently that he would be donating the pay that he earned during the government shutdown in October to the community. A total of $5,287 is set to go to the Carver Foundation in Norwalk, the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford and Action for Bridgeport Community Development.
“Congress isn’t working because the House Majority continues to hold even the most basic functions of civilized government hostage to their partisan demands. I felt it was important to give my pay earned during the unnecessary government shutdown the Majority caused to organizations that support the folks who were most vulnerable to the lost services and support during this time,” Himes, a Greenwich resident, said in a release. “While we cannot undo the damage done by the shutdown, I hope this money will help these organizations continue the vital services they provide.”
The Carver Foundation in Norwalk provides educational, social, and recreational programs to children in a safe environment. The Stamford Boys & Girls Club provides children with after-school activities and youth development services.
“We really appreciate Congressman Himes’ donation to the Stamford Boys & Girls Club,” said Michael Cotela, executive director of the Stamford Boys & Girls Club in the release. “The donation will help us provide youth programs for the children of Stamford.”
ABCD in Bridgeport provides various services to the Bridgeport community, including after-school and summer programs for youths and energy assistance and other financial services for families in need.
