NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan’s Democratic Party made its nominations Tuesday night for this November’s municipal elections.

"We're going to make our voices heard," said Jane Himmel, chairwoman of the town's Democratic Town Committee.

Running for re-election to the Board of Selectmen will be Beth Jones, who says to best perform in her role she will need the help of everyone in town to know what issues are important to them, so she can best represent the town.

“This isn’t a job that can be done in a vacuum,” Jones said.

The party endorsed the re-election of Penny Rachin to the Board of Education. Also endorsed for the school board was Sheri West, who was appointed to the board earlier this year to replace Jim Kucharczyk when he moved to the Board of Finance.

The party endorsed Kathleen Corbett, Sven Englund, and Jeanne Rozel for Town Council; all three are seeking their first terms. “We have three candidates going for three seats, and we’re going to win them,” Corbett said, hinting that they will take more than the two seats mandatory for Democrats to fill.

Ed Vollmer, Cynthia Franco and Arnold Karp will run for constable.

Wendy Fog was endorsed to be re-elected to the Board of Assessment Appeals.

The party did not nominate candidates for First Selectman, Town Clerk and Town Treasurer.

Candidates not endorsed and still looking to run for office can petition by Aug. 7 to force a primary on Sept. 10. Election Day is Nov. 5.
