New Canaan Republicans Endorse Candidates For November

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan’s Republican Town Committee officially endorsed Robert Mallozzi III and Nicholas Williams for re-election to the New Canaan Board of Selectmen Tuesday night at its annual caucus.

Mallozzi, who will be looking for his second term as first selectman of the town, and Williams first announced their plans to run together in April. They were uncontested for the nomination. 

The committee endorsed Dionna Carlson, Jennifer Richardson, and Sangetta Appel for the town’s board of education. The three received more votes than Maria Naughton and Maryanne Marcella to win the endorseent.

Endorsed for the town council will be Kevin Moynihan and William Walburt, both looking to be elected to the council, and John Engel and Penny Young will be looking to be re-elected. Paul Foley, Daniel Radman, and Roy Abramowitz also were vying for the endorsement but did not receive enough votes to be one of the top four.

Town Clerk Claudia Weber will be looking to remain in her current role with the town.

Andrew Brooks will be looking to become the town treasurer.

Both Katherine Kane Markiewicz and Patrick McLevey will be looking to remain on New Canaan’s Board of Assessment Appeals.

The committee also endorsed the re-election bids for Austin Furst Jr., Gregory Pepe, John Ponterotto and Van Young for constable. 

Candidates still looking to run for office, despite not being endorsed, have until Aug. 7 to file a petition to force a primary Sept. 10. Election Day is Nov. 5.

The Democratic Town Council will be having its caucus Tuesday at the Lapham Community Center.
