Laszlo Papp, planning commission chairman, said he’s expecting the commission to reach a settlement with 47 Jelliff Mill LLC, the company that wants to build a 16-unit townhouse complex at 41 and 47 Jelliff Mill Road, the site of an old mill.
Officials from the developer met Tuesday with the commission and First Selectman Robert Mallozzi III in an executive session prior to the commission’s regular meeting.
Papp said he could not discuss details of the talks, but said, “Hopefully, we will see daylight in January.”
The company, and property owners Bryan and Cheryl Gardiner, filed appeals in Stamford Superior Court against the planning commission and the Inland Wetlands Commission after both town bodies voted earlier this year against requests for permits that would have been needed to build the townhouse units.
In its denial, the planning commission said it was a bad location for the project, citing a dam near the proposed construction area.
Several neighbors spoke out at public hearings against the proposed housing, citing possible negative effects on the Noroton River and increased traffic in the area, among other concerns.
Papp said a judge in New Britain Superior Court told them that the best course was to reach an agreement, rather than proceed with a lengthy lawsuit.
Tim Hollister, the attorney representing 47 Jelliff Mill LLC, declined comment after the executive session concluded. Mallozzi also said he could not comment.
