STAMFORD, Conn. He wont be competing against Michael Phelps or LeBron James, but Stamfords Mayor Michael Pavia will be headed to London for the Olympic Games on Wednesday.
The primary purpose of the visit is to recognize the move of NBC Sports to Stamford, a release from the mayors office said. Part of his visit will be a trip to the International Broadcast Center, where the media for the games is stationed, and attending an event on Saturday, Aug. 4, according to the release.
The rest of the visit will be business for the mayor and his delegation, who will meet with leaders from different industries based in the United Kingdom. The group will meet with senior management of RBS; the mayor of the Borough of Hackney; executives at the Financial Services Authority, Francis Crick Institute, University College of London; and a preview of Imperial Colleges new campus.
The delegation will also meet with Andrew Altman, who was instrumental in planning the development in the South End of Stamford. Altman now works as the chief executive officer for London Legacy Development Corp.
The mayors delegation will include Mary Lou Rinaldi, vice chairman of the Board of Finance; Laure Aubuchon, director of economic development; and William Arnone, a Stamford resident and partner at Capital Financial Management. The costs of the trip will be covered by the delegation, according to the press release.
