Schools Can Cash In on Green Projects

High school students in Greenwich could earn some “green” to implement sustainable projects at their schools, thanks to Connecticut Light & Power.

The “Live Green -- Win Green” contest, in its third year, is open to all Connecticut high schools in the company’s service areas. The challenge for students is to make a two-minute video showing what their school is doing now to conserve energy and be more environmentally friendly. Additionally, they have to write 1,000 words on a “green” project the school would use the prize money for.

The winning school will receive a $20,000 award to implement the project. Three runners-up will receive $5,000 from CL&P to help fund their projects. A school administrator or faculty advisor must make the contest submission online by Jan. 31. Entries will be posted from Feb. 1 through Feb. 15 on the contest website, where the public will have a chance to vote for their favorite. The project with the most votes advances to the final round.
