Downtown Still Decked Out for Holidays

The relentless snow accumulation has delayed even the removal of the holiday wreaths, garlands and white lights from light poles and other locations across downtown Stamford.

"The plan was to have them all removed by last week, but the continuing snowstorms have put us back for at least a week," said John Ruotolo, director of operations for the Stamford Downtown Special Services District.

Stamford Downtown is responsible for decorating the area for the holidays each year in addition to producing the annual Holiday Parade in November and other city events.

"We contract with a local landscaping company to set them up and take them down, but with the continuing snowstorms they just can't get their ladders up," Ruotolo said.

Unless Mother Nature decides to add a few more inches of the white stuff, all the festive holiday decorations should be back in storage by the end of next week.
