Vendor Wanted for Peekskill Train Station

PEEKSKILL –Metro-North Railroad is seeking a tenant for the 19th Century Peekskill train station building.

The Peekskill station, which is on the National Historic Registry, is among four stations the MTA is looking to lease to businesses. The others are in Ossining, Tarrytown and Port Chester.

"These properties represent a tremendous opportunity for creative entrepreneurs whether for a restaurant, a florist, whatever," said Metro-North President Howard Permut. "In addition to the built-in commuter market, these stations are located in vibrant, lively villages. Having these buildings open all day would be a boon for both our customers and village residents."

Peekskill Station, built in 1874, is a one-story, 7,395-square-foot building, including the basement. In addition, there is an outdoor plaza of 1,630 square feet next to the building.

The building last housed PJ Kellys restaurant, but the owners closed it in May of 2009 after 15 years.

Included in the Peekskill lease are eight short-term parking spaces in front of the station building. Additionally, the City of Peekskill plans to convert the row of parking to the north of the station to short-term meters so they are available for customers of the business in the station building.

Metro north is currently renovating the station, making improvements to the platform and the bridge, adding lighting and painting the platform covering, said Anthony Ruggiero, Peekskill's director of planning. A tenant in the building would help the vibrancy of the waterfront, Ruggiero said.

“It would be a great location for another restaurant," Ruggiero said. "You have the outdoor [dining] area, you have the park, you have the Peekskill Brewery. It would add more foot traffic and entertainment and people could enjoy the beautiful views of the Hudson. The waterfront is coming back."

The MTA is requiring its new tenants to sell coffee on workdays from 6-11 a.m. at minimum. Port Chester, Ossining and Tarrytown currently have coffee concessions, but Peekskill hasn’t had one for over a year.

Requests for proposals are available http://mta.info/mta/realestate/retail_leasing.html.The availability will be advertised beginning July 10. Proposals are due by August 5 and can be submitted to Royal Properties, Inc., of Bronxville, NY.
