WESTON, Conn. The Revson Field project is on track to be completed this summer and make for some happy baseball players come spring.
The Weston Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed the project and accepted the low bid from Aquaturf at $144,873 to complete the project. David Ungar, director of Parks and Recreation, detailed the project to the commission Monday. The project includes the varsity and junior varsity baseball fields north of Weston Middle School. Aquaturf covered all items in the specifications, said Ungar, and the town can now cover the grading of center field on the varsity field.
Sand particles will also be "busted up" to allow water to better permeate the surface. "This field is compact. Water does not drain; water does not permeate; water does not flow," said Ungar.
The project includes: infield replacement and drainage work on the junior varsity and varsity fields, laser grading of the right and center field high elevation points and sodding the outfield area.
At the junior varsity field, the pitcher's mound will also be replaced, clay will be replaced and it will be resodded.
The Conservation Commission will meet July 19 to discuss this project. If approved, the Board of Selectmen will discuss the work at its July 21 meeting. The plan is to start work at the end of July and be done by the end of August.
Last week, Ungar said Weston residents requested a freedom of information meeting concerning Revson Field.
"In some eyes, we're doing something great in some eyes, we're not," said Ungar. "We're going to make it better. We don't have the funds to take the field out and start over. ... This brings us closer to a fix than just making things better."
