Harrison Youth Council Names Executive Director

HARRISON, N.Y. - Scott Altabet was appointed the new executive director of the Harrison Youth Council last week.

Having Altabet on staff will help "bring extensive experience, especially with children" to the council, according to a statement.

"Mr. Altabet has experience in community efforts to combat youth addiction, which is the mission of the Harrison Youth Council," the statement said.

He has spent more than a year at Bronx Children's Psychiatric Center and also worked on Long Island at the North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center.

Altabet is a clinical New York social worker and is currently working towards his Ph.D. in social work at Columbia University. He holds a master's degree in social work from New York University and worked as a teaching assistant and adjunct lecturer at the Columbia University School of Social Work.

He also served on various Scarsdale boards including the Village of Scarsdale Advisory Council for Youth, the Board of Directors of the Scarsdale Teen Center and the Scarsdale Task Force on Drugs and Alcohol.

The Harrison Youth Council is a drug, alcohol and gambling prevention agency licensed by the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services. It provides education, counseling and referrals to Harrison’s young people and their families.

The council has served the Harrison community for more than three decades. It is located in downtown Harrison at 84 Calvert St.
