Scott's term runs through Dec. 31, 2015, Town Clerk Boo Fumagalli said when she administered Scott's oath of office, adding that it was for Chris Burdick's seat.
The seat initially became vacant because Burdick became supervisor. Last year, Peter Chryssos temporarily occupied the seat, while Scott won a special election in November for the remainder of the term.
The seat is up for a regular election this coming November, which would be for a new four-year term.
Scott's wife, Stephanie, was by his side when he took his oath.
Scott's history of serving in local offices is extensive. His resume includes having served on the Katonah-Lewisboro school board, the Katonah Board of Fire Commissioners and the town's Wetlands Control Commission. Later Tuesday night, the Town Board, including Scott, voted to accept his resignation from the commission.
“I’m serving with four great people on this board,” Scott said, adding that he is a serving a "wonderful town" and praising both its beauty and its history.
Addressing Bedford's size, Scott said, “we’re at a real sweet spot in terms of the size of our town.” The new councilman cited the town being big enough to have its department heads, whom he praised, but added that it is small enough to be accessible and connected to the community.
Later that night, the Town Board held its organizational meeting, which was to take care of routine items at the start of the year. It also held an executive session and a regular session. In the case of the latter, the board accepted a suggestion from Scott to start holding the pledge of allegiance at the beginning of meetings. Tuesday's regular meeting was the first time the suggestion was put into practice.
