The NMPL also provides support services to the AARP volunteers, who will be in the library every Tuesday and Thursday until April 15.

“We serve our community, and these are the kinds of things the library is here for," Library Director Terrie McColl said.

The library assumes responsibility for making appointments and for providing space and equipment necessary to print tax forms.

Tax services are not limited to New Milford residents, but libraries in Bogota, Fair Lawn, Waldwick and Wyckoff also bring in volunteer tax preparers

New Milford was chosen because it has plenty of parking, McColl said. The library also provides a large room with internet connection where three to four people can be served at one time, and a printer for the forms.

“New Jersey provides no forms any more, and the IRS only supplies the most basic ones these days,” the director said.

“They expect people to get them online.”

There are also six senior centers around the county that offer tax services: Fair Lawn, Mahwah, Midland Park, Westwood, Wyckoff and Palisades Park.

McColl advises that anyone who wants to take advantage of this free tax preparation service to plan ahead and come in early.

Call NMPL (201) 262-1221. The library is located at 200 Dahlia Ave.
