7-Month-Old Child's Death In Southeast DC Determined To Be A Homicide

An infant's death has been ruled a homicide in Southeast DC, the Metropolitan Police Department announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, officers from the Seventh District were called to the 1300 block of Morris Road SE, where there were calls about an unconscious infant inside a home.

Upon arrival, they found 7-month-old King Phelps, who was pronounced dead at the scene by DC Fire and EMS personnel after showing no signs of life.

Phelps' body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia, which ruled that the child's death was caused by complications of blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was a homicide.

No additional information was released by the department on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
