Teffiney Worthy's family is whole again days after "Hendrix" was returned to her at the Metropolitan Police Department, the agency announced on Tuesday afternoon.
It's been a whirlwind several days for Worthy after a man threatened to end her life if she didn't hand over her 6-month-old puppy at the door of her Northeast DC home on Saturday, Nov. 25.
Following the dognapping, Worthy issued an impassioned plea to the community as she sought the public's assistance in tracking down the missing animal, which was taken by a masked man armed with a Taser-like device who fled in a black Nissan with tinted windows down Monroe Street NE.
Worthy's ordeal became national news when she shared that Hendrix was a new member of the family after she lost her previous dog during floods last August at the District Dogs NE daycare facility.
Worthy shared a photo of the dognapper and video of the incident on social media.
"I am currently searching for my dog Hendrix who was stolen from me by a threat to end my life with a weapon in hand. It seems like a double loss this year for me," she wrote in a GoFundMe campaign started on Sunday morning.
"First loss was due to my puppy dying at District Dogs NE day care facility from negligence/flood and recently to being threatened to end my life if I didn’t give up my dog."
Community members were quick to celebrate the reunion when the Metropolitan Police Department posted the news online.
The suspect who stole Hendrix remains at large.
He was described as being a Black man who is 5-foot-5 with a slim build. He was wearing a black ski mask, black coat, light denim jeans, and colorful shoes.
