Darien Appoints Elementary Assistant Principals

DARIEN, Conn. – Darien has appointed new assistant principals for two of its elementary schools. Jenna Mason will fill the position at Hindley Elementary School and Kristin Goldstein will fill the slot at Ox Ridge Elementary School.

Mason replaces Melissa Currier, who was recently appointed principal at Mathewson Elementary School in Milford. She has spent her entire career with Norwalk Public Schools, and the past six years as assistant principal at Brookside Elementary School. She began her career as a fifth-grade bilingual teacher and spent the majority of her teaching career as a first-grade teacher.

In her role as an assistant principal, Mason has been responsible for supervising and evaluating teachers, analyzing test data, organizing teams of faculty to monitor student and school progress, overseeing building level special education processes, writing grants and providing guidance in the implementation of reader’s and writer’s workshop and Growing with Math curricula. She has sat on district-wide committees related to the Academically Talented program, the SRBI intervention program, district technology applications and racial and cultural balance in school populations

Goldstein replaces Luke Forshaw, who was recently appointed the principal of Ox Ridge. Goldstein started her teaching career in the Hallandale Public Schools in Florida. For the past two years, she has been the assistant principal at Cos Cob School in Greenwich. Prior to that, she was the interim assistant principal at Parkway School in Greenwich, where she worked as a classroom teacher and mathematics learning facilitator since 2000.

Goldstein has been responsible for supervising and evaluating teachers, providing professional development in data-based decision making, overseeing the implementation of reader’s and writer’s Workshop curriculum, and monitoring special education practices and programming. She participated in district-wide committees to revise the administrator evaluation system and to coordinate district professional development. Her efforts as a mathematics curriculum coach required that she review and update programs, provide professional development to teachers, and coordinate school-wide math materials.
