NEW CANAAN, Conn.  – New Canaan High School seniors Kellianne Hickey and Doug Reilly were honored this week with leadership awards from the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education.

Hickey served as vice president of the school’s Student Coalition and helped to assist students new to the high school. She also played on the Rams’ girls’ ice hockey team, where she was a captain, and was a trainer for the cross country team. New Canaan Superintendent David Abbey praised Hickey for “making the most of her high school experience while seeming to thoroughly enjoy it.” Hickey will attend Loyola University in Maryland next fall.

Reilly serves as a captain on the Rams’ baseball team and is a senior editor of the Courant, the high school’s student newspaper. Abbey saluted Reilly for being a leader in the school and among his peers.

“He is one of the most well-liked seniors at NCHS,” Abbey said. “Doug has the ability to be comfortable making the right decision and still be genuine with his classmates.”  Reilly will attend the College of Charleston in South Carolina in the fall.

The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education Student Leadership Awards Program is designed to honor high school seniors who exhibit exemplary leadership skills.  One male and one female student from each high school in a member district are eligible to receive the award.
