New Canaan To Hire New School Leader Monday

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The New Canaan Public Schools have found a new superintendent.

The Board of Education will hire its next chief during Monday’s regular meeting, Chairwoman Hazel Hobbs announced Friday. The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. in New Canaan High School’s Wagner Room.

Hobbs did not say who would replace the retiring David Abbey. The board has been searching for Abbey’s successor since late last year when he announced he would leave after nine years in the job. The search committee charged with looking for Abbey’s successor included New Canaan schools students, teachers, parents and others.

“We’re very pleased” with the choice, said Hobbs. “We’re going to wait until Monday. That way, it will give you something good to look forward to.”

Hobbs said the district will host a welcome reception for the new superintendent April 9.
