Panelists will include admissions officers from Bucknell, the University of Denver and Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.
“We are very pleased with our line-up of panelists,” said Doug Richardson of Competitive Edge College Advisors. “Both Bucknell and the University of Denver have traditionally been popular with students from New Canaan. And although Lynn University, founded in 1962, is a relative newcomer to the university scene, it is becoming a hot new career-oriented liberal arts college, attracting both U.S. and international students which form about one-fourth of the student body.”
Topics will include the Realities of Financial Aid; Merit Scholarships; the Role of Athletics and Extra-curricular activities in the admissions process; the Weighting of GPA, SAT/ACT and the Essay; and Early Decision versus Early Action versus Regular Admissions.
Finding the right fit, both academically and socially, will also be discussed.
Over 80 people filled the Outback for the last College Admissions Panel Discussion in January, and lively discussions ensued during the question-and-answer period at the end of the panel presentations.
Competitive Edge College Advisors helps students navigate the entire admissions process and focus on key tasks at the appropriate times.
The goal is to help each student find and gain acceptance to a college that is a complete fit – both inside and outside of the classroom. The emphasis is on encouraging each student to find the “Edge” - talent or passion that makes him or her unique, and will foster acceptance to that individual’s top schools of choice.
Founded in 2013, Competitive Edge College Advisors brings together the combined business and academic expertise of four partners: Brent Haney, Lee Jones, Kevin Rusch and Doug Richardson.
Haney formerly worked in partnership with Dick Whitcomb, Headmaster Emeritus of St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, in their college admissions counseling firm.
The event will be held at the Outback Teen Center in New Canaan from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Reservations are required as space is limited.
