NEW CANAAN,, Conn. – A median household income of $179,338 makes the New Canaan School District the eighth richest in the country, according to the website 24/7 Wall St.
Some 54.5 percent of New Canaan households earn more than $200,000 a year, according to the website. The percentage of households earning less than $10,000 is 0.7.
New Canaan Schools spend $18,915 per student, and 87 percent of the funding comes from local property taxes. Nearly all of New Canaan’s students achieved at least a proficient level on the Connecticut Academic Performance Test, administered to students in grades 3 to 10. The website said ample funding allows the district to offer classes not available at most schools, including computer science and journalism. New Canaan High School was recently ranked the 15th best in Connecticut by U.S. News & World Report.
