NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan Public Schools will remain closed for the rest of the week because of inaccessibility on town roads created by Hurricane Sandy.
New Canaan Schools Superintendent Mary Kolek made the announcement early Wednesday morning that the town’s five public schools would be closed on Thursday and Friday due to “ongoing concerns with safety, including inaccessible roads and lack of power.”
Nearly 300 roads have had issues with downed trees and or power lines. Emergency management officials said Wednesday that 120 roads are impassible. Many roads on Tuesday had fallen trees leaning on lines, making roads unfit or difficult to traverse.
Kolek said the district will work in close collaboration with the town’s emergency operations center to offer updates.
