NEW CANAAN, Conn. — The New Canaan School District has welcomed and enrolled four students from hurricane-ravaged areas — three from St. Thomas and one from Puerto Rico, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.

The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education instructed school officials across the state that students who are homeless after the storms may be relocating to attend school.

Lizette D’Amico, K-12 World Language and English Language Learner (ELL) administrator for the New Canaan schools, said the department is helping the students to transition into their new homes, the Advertiser said.

The Bridgeport Public Schools have also welcomed a number of students from Puerto Rico, most of whom are staying with relatives in the city because of damage and extensive power outages on the island. More students from Puerto Rico are expected to enroll in Connecticut schools as more flights become available this month for residents to leave.
