New Canaan Schools Work With Teacher To Reinstate Certification

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan Public Schools are working with teacher Michael Patrona to get his state certification reinstated, said a statement from the district Friday.

The teaching certification for Patrona, a teacher at Saxe Middle School, lapsed earlier this month for a variety of different reasons, the district said. He has not been at the school since, the statement said.

The issue was a state administrative problem and not about his teaching abilities, and the well-being of students was never compromised, the statement said.

Patrona regrets the situation and said he has maintained an open, working relationship with the school district, the statement said. He is working diligently to have his certification reinstated, the statement said.

Patrona will stay on as New Canaan High School’s baseball coach while the situation is straightened out, the statement said.
