New Canaan Slobs Get Ready For Another Year Of Helping

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — The Service League of Boys will be holding an orientation meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. in the New Canaan High School Cafeteria for teens interested in working with fellow students and their parents to perform good in the community.

SLOBs is open to any freshman, sophomore or junior boy attending NCHS. A parent must also join along with his or her son and attend the meetings. 

SLOBs fosters the parent-son relationship within a philanthropic organization committed to community service and leadership development. With 245 boys enrolled, SLOBs members and their parents have served over 28,000 hours since the organization inception in 2004, making it the largest club at NCHS. 

The organization is able to assist a multitude of philanthropies in New Canaan and Fairfield County, including the New Canaan Food Bank, Filling in the Blanks, The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, The Family and Children's Agency, YMCA's Sports Buddies, The Exchange Club with Christmas Tree sales, The New Canaan Nature Center at the Fall Fair and the annual St. Mark's May Fair, among others. 

SLOBs provides opportunities to spend time with peers and parents, fosters leadership skills while helping others. Boys who are interested in learning more about SLOBs are invited to attend the new members meeting in Sept. 14. A parent must also attend. 

All current members and parents should plan to attend the General Meeting on Sept. 24.
