New Canaan Student Graduates From Carleton College

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Benjamin Walsh of New Canaan graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in cinema and media studies from Carleton College during its 140th commencement ceremony in June.

He is the son of Roxanne Rick and Jeffrey Rick.

At the commencement, Grace Jaffe, a senior mathematics major from Chicago, spoke about “Getting Back Up,” and Mitchell Campbell, a senior psychology major from Superior, Wis., delivered a speech on “A Community of Trust, an Empire of Memories.”

The college presented an honorary degree to David R. Loy, Class of 1969, who was an author and Zen teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan tradition of Japanese Zen Buddhism. He also spoke to the graduating class, along with Carleton’s 11th president, Steven Poskanzer.

Carleton College is a private liberal arts college in Northfield, Minn., that is 45 miles south of Minneapolis-St. Paul. It is a national top 10 college, with 37 majors and 15 concentrations in the fields of arts, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences.
