New Canaan Students Engage In Experimental Courses At Pomfret School

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan residents who attend the Pomfret School recently completed experimental courses that took them beyond the classroom.

Students at Pomfret engaged in one of twenty-seven interactive, project-based courses that overlapped various disciplines.

Ian Buckley took a course called "Mock Trial and Great Cases in American Legal History," which culminated in a trial, complete with jurors.

Sarah Youngman engaged in "Reading the Landscape of Pomfret," which challenged students to devise a narrative following the transformation of the 500-acre campus from a historical and ecological point of view. Students tackled this task by researching archived documents and conducting observations.

Campbell Connors participated in "Engineering a Better World: A Social History of the Technologies that Shaped Modern Civilization."

Project Pomfret was initiated two years ago. It is based on the principles of project-based learning and it revolves around the idea that students engage to the fullest when they can experience and solve real-world problems.
