NEW CANAAN, Conn. – More than 90 New Canaan Public School students will share their passions for technology Tuesday at NCPS Tech Night 2016.

The event is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Wagner Room, cafeteria and main entrance hallway. Admission is free.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this popular event has continued to grow each year. Tech Night now includes student exhibitors from grades 2 to 12 who will teach and inspire with their ideas and creations.

NCPS Director of Digital Learning, Matthew Salvestrini said, “Tech Night has grown into a proud tradition that students, staff and families look forward to every year.”

Tech Night provides a venue for students and educators to present innovations that demonstrate how today’s technology can enhance and encourage learning. In addition to showcasing curricular uses of technology within classrooms, students have the opportunity to work outside of school on self-directed projects. Students can combine their problem-solving skills with their personal passions to create technology-based solutions.

Examples of some of this year’s submissions include Lots of light, no electicity; Should every kid have a Raspberry Pi?; Vex Robotics; Fun with junk components; Flight simulator; Pen making; The science of Chapstick; Make the brain happy and drones.

Participation was open to all students in grades K-12. Interested students submitted their applications in February and were required to explain their project idea, describe its use of technology and provide a reason for sharing their idea. A committee composed of faculty and staff reviewed each application. Once a student’s application was accepted, faculty and staff were available to provide any support they may need to prepare their project for Tech Night.

The 10th Annual NCPS Tech Night will take place at New Canaan High School on Tuesday, April 5, at 6:30 to 8 p.m. Exhibitors will be presenting.

During the event, the high school's planetarium also will be open for three showings of the night sky. Free tickets for the planetarium shows will be available.
