NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The proposed New Canaan school budget from Superintendent Bryan Luizzi for 2016-17 includes a 6.4 percent increase, or $5.3 million over last year's budget, according to the NCAdvertiser.

A rise in the cost of health insurance — $3,710,978, or 69 percent of the overall budget increase – is the single largest reason for the budget hike, with teacher salaries coming in second, at 63 percent of the $88.5 million budget, said the NCAdvertiser.

The budget proposing an increase in staff from 729 to 735, the NCAdvertiser added.
