Fairfield Schools Ranked 24th In Connecticut

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Several school districts were ranked among Connecticut's best public school systems by Niche, an education website dedicated to providing rankings and systems on school districts throughout the country.

Niche compiled statistics for over 13,000 public schools with at least 100 students enrolled and graded them on a set of eight weighted factors including:

  • Academics
  • Health and safety
  • Student culture and diversity
  • Parent and student surveys
  • Teachers' grade
  • Resources and facilities 
  • Extracurriculars and activities 
  • Sports

New Canaan was the top ranked school, and was 19th in the nation. It received the top grade of "A+" in three categories: academics, health and safety and teachers' grade. 

The district's lowest grade was a "B -" in student culture and diversity. 

Westport was the second-ranked public district in the state, and was ranked 30th in the nation. The Westport school district received top marks in academics, health and safety, teachers' grade and extracurriculars. 

In the list's town-by-town ranking for the Nutmeg State, here is how some Fairfield County towns fared on the Top 100:

  • No. 1: New Canaan
  • No. 2: Westport
  • No. 3: Darien 
  • No. 4: Ridgefield 
  • No. 7: Wilton
  • No. 8: Weston
  • No. 9: Greenwich 
  • No. 12: Regional District 9 for Redding and Easton
  • No. 24: Fairfield 
  • No. 69: Stamford
  • No. 85: Norwalk
  • No. 86: Danbury
